KINGS COLLEGE CAMBRIDGE CARD CASE

A very fine and rare Victorian silver “Castle Top” Card Case of shaped rectangular form, chased and engraved with a scene of Kings College, Cambridge, in high relief. The reverse with chased and engraved foliate scroll work and vacant shaped cartouche.

By Hilliard & Thomason, Birmingham 1858.

In fine condition with no damage or repair.

CARD CASE Osborne House Yapp & Woodward 1850

An extremely rare Victorian silver ‘Castle Top’ Card Case of shaped rectangular form with hinged flip-top lid and chased and embossed foliate scroll decoration on a matt background, the front with superbly detailed raised and chased scene depicting OSBORNE HOUSE in high relief. Vacant rococo scroll cartouche to reverse. Osborne House in the Isle of Wight was the rural retreat of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, designed by Prince Albert himself and built between 1845 & 1851.

By Yapp & Woodward, Birmingham 1850.

CARD CASE Balmoral Hilliard & Thomason 1862

An extremely rare Victorian silver ‘Castle Top’ Card Case of shaped rectangular form with hinged flip-top lid and chased and embossed foliate scroll decoration on a matt background, the front with raised and chased scene depicting BALMORAL CASTLE in high relief. Vacant shield shaped cartouche to reverse. Balmoral is the Scottish Royal residence so beloved and purchased by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1852.

CARD CASE York Minster Joseph Willmore 1851

A very fine Victorian silver ‘Castle Top’ Card Case of shaped rectangular form with hinged flip-top lid and chased and embossed foliate scroll decoration on a matt background, the front with superbly detailed raised and chased scene depicting YORK MINSTER in high relief. Vacant rococo scroll shaped cartouche to reverse. York Minster is the seat of the Archbishop of York and the cathedral is one of the largest in Europe.

CARD CASE Jenny Lind Frederick Marson 1847

A rare Victorian silver Card Case finely bright-cut engraved with geometric designs and foliate scroll work, a rococo scroll cartouche to the front engraved with a scene depicting Jenny Lind, the famous 19th century Swedish Opera Singer.
Johanna Maria Lind (October 6, 1820 – November 2, 1887), better known as Jenny Lind, was a Swedish opera singer, often known as the "Swedish Nightingale". One of the most highly regarded singers of the 19th century, she is known for her performances in soprano roles in Sweden and across Europe, and for an extraordinarily popular concert tour of America beginning in 1850. She was a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music from 1840. Lind became famous after her performance in Der Freischütz in Sweden in 1838. After this, she was in great demand throughout Sweden and the rest of Europe for a decade. After three acclaimed seasons in London, she was invited to America by P. T. Barnum, where she gave 93 large-scale concerts. She earned $250,000 from these concerts. She returned to Europe, where she became a philanthropist, and, for some years, a professor of singing at the Royal College of Music

AIDE MEMOIRE Kenilworth & Warwick Castles, Taylor & Perry 1842

A rare Victorian silver mounted ‘Castle Top’ Aide Memoire with two different raised, chased and embossed covers, one depicting Warwick Castle from over the river Avon and the other Kenilworth Castle from the Elizabethan Garden. The leather and silk lined interior with ivory panel.

By Taylor & Perry, Birmingham, 1842.

The silver covers in excellent condition with crisp detail, the leather and silk lined interior in poor condition and missing some ivory pages.
